Is it Ever Too Late to Save a Marriage?
How can anyone answer the age old question “Is it ever too late to rescue a marriage?” I find myself asking this question, often, when my spouse has expressed an interest in seeing a marriage counselor or I have received the divorce papers. Often, at that point, the marriage has been so hopeless that rekindling it is seen as an option.
How can anyone answer the age old question, “Is it ever too late to Save a marriage?” The first step is telling the would-be clients that there are only two basic pieces to this answer. The first is the level of commitment required. Has one or both spouses completely given up on trying to make the marriage work? And, second, is entering couples counseling just a means of visualizing the preparation for divorce?
One person who always believes that is it ever too late to save a marriage is me. I was once a divorced wife, but through the help and support of a Christian counselor, I was able to come back from a divorce with my heart in the right place. Through the years since, I have watched countless others give up on marriage because they felt it was beyond repair. But with the help of God, I have learned that a person can be saved from divorce even in the worst of circumstances.
When you look back at your marriage, is there anything you wish you had done differently? What is it that your spouse did or said that made things harder or better? It may be hard to pinpoint exactly what the problem is, but by asking yourself questions such as these, you will begin to see where your marriage has fallen short. The next step may be for you to consider counseling to help you renew your marriage vows and start again.
If you are asking the question is it ever too late to save a marriage, then I can tell you that this is not something you should put off indefinitely. This is especially true if you feel there is a chance that your spouse may leave you. However, this does not mean you should sit around and wait for this to happen. In fact, doing nothing is worse than doing something. Yes, by not doing anything, you may let your marriage slip away without you even realizing it.
What is it ever too late to save a marriage when your spouse has already moved out or wants a divorce? I know that the pain of separation can be unbearable. But, do not let it stop you from doing what you can to save your marriage. You can do this by communicating with him or her and make sure that they know that you still care deeply about them and want to work things out.
One of the worst feelings a person can experience is when he or she realizes that he or she has hurt the one he or she is in love with. But, this does not mean you should be the one to bear the brunt of the hurt. It is better if both parties accept each other and move on. What is it ever too late to save a marriage when your spouse is ready to just go ahead and file for divorce? This is much better than you waiting around for him or her to take the initiative.
So, if you are asking the question is it ever too late to save a marriage, the answer is YES. Now, is it ever too late to save a marriage when the only real way to do so is for each person to open up and talk to each other and make a commitment to each other? There is hope and there is always a chance to save your marriage. It just takes a willingness to do whatever it takes and sometimes it just takes a calling from the other side to make everything right again.
